FeCl3 OXIDATION OF SILYL-CONJUGATED MOMOMERS

This dissertation describes the use of silicon on the synthesis of conducting organic polymers: oxidative coupling of p-conjugated monomers actived by trimethylsilyl groups. Trimethylsilyl substituted thiophene and 3-n-octylthiophene derivatives were synthesised. The polymers obtained by chemical oxidation were characterised by different techniques: GPC, Raman, FT-IR, RMN, and electronical spectroscopy. The results showed that the trimethylsilyl groups enhanced the polymerisation of thiophene and derivatives.
