Modelling of heat and mass transfers during drying of a building material

Abstract

The main purpose of this present paper is the numerical study of heat and moisture transfers within an unsaturated plane plate of terracotta during drying. The mathematical formulation of these transfers has been made using Luikov's model. The system of equations describing temperature and moisture content fields during drying is solved numerically using finite element method. The effect of many parameters, in particular the initial rate of humidity, the velocity and the temperature of the draining air on heat and mass transfers occurring within the material, were analyzed. The numerical results obtained are in good agreement with available experimental works.
