Abstract

     Polycrystalline barium cerate BaCeO3 was synthesized from a sol gel method at relatively moderate temperature. Samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electronic microscopy, the crystal parameters were refined.

     FTIR spectroscopy was used to study the conversion of methane present in air-methane mixtures reacting with these powders at various temperatures. The formation rate of CO2 gas varied with time. The catalytic activity of BaCeO3 powders as a function of reaction time was characterized by a complex reactivity depending on particle sizes.
