Le Premier Congrès International sur

La Basse Dimensionalité et la NanoTechnologie

BDNT 1 - Morocco (2006)

The first edition of the Nanotechnology and Low Dimensionality meeting was held on the Chouaïb Doukkali University of El Jadida Morocco, on 1-3 November 2006. The meeting was devoted to the advance in nanomaterials, nanostructure and materials properties at various scales.

More than 120 attendees were warmly welcomed in the nice town of El Jadida by our Moroccan colleagues. Plenary lectures, invited sessions, oral and poster presentation underlined the high interest of such topics and clearly demonstrated the large implication of the international community in nanotechnology and materials science.

To understand the material properties from micro scale to macro scale and to elaborate high performance nanostructures is one of the most exciting challenges that has to be faced. During the three days, the scientific community shared common experiences on various materials elaboration, characterization and modeling from bulk to nanometric sizes dedicated to magnetic, optical and electrical properties.

This issue contains a selection of the papers presented during the three days of the meeting covering the above recalled topics. These papers not only describe fundamentals but new exciting applications especially in the field of environment or smart structures also.

From a practical point of view, it is worthwhile recalling the efficiency of the organization and the great success of the meeting. The organizers and their sponsors deserve all our congratulations and I look forward to attending the next edition of this meeting.
