Abstract

The presence of excited Cr3+ ions in the ceramics under study offers an opportunity to probe these materials in the microscopic scale using the internal optical transitions 2E4A2. In presence of thermally activated disorder in the ceramics, the experiments conducted using the luminescence spectroscopy show certain vibronic sidebands close to the pure electronic R-lines. The phononic origin of these features is analysed in terms of lattice perturbation in the environment of the Cr3+ sites.
