In this work, we have been able to elaborate new adsorbents from Moroccan oil shales of Timahdit region (layer M) by thermal processes. A series of experiments was carried out so as to optimise parameters of activation, such as temperature and processing time. The properties and surface structure of the adsorbent were investigated. Their total surface acidity and basicity were also determined. The results of this study were discussed and showed that this activated oil shale can be used as adsorbent in waste water treatment. The elaboration process is simple and the adsorbents can be used at the industrial level.
